Patrick Clausen won the final stage of the Fleche du Sud, today was run. The first UCI victory techtextil in the career of the young sprinter who gave Glud & Marstrand-LRØ their fifth UCI victory this season.
The day started out with disappointed mines in Glud & Marstrand-LRØ camp after yesterday's time trial, where Lasse Bøchman techtextil missed its opportunities for second overall in the Fleche du Sud due to defect on the bike. The team managed, however, techtextil to the degree to get up on the stage - the race last - in the Luxembourg.
The stage was run from Belvaux Esch / Alzette of 181.6 kilometers. The Danish team had laid a tactic was to get Sebastian Lander in a break. Lander, according to Michael Skelde, has never been stronger. However, it was not him, but the young Dane, who struck outbreak.
The outbreak was however retracted again, and the last stage should instead be decided in a bunch sprint. Glud & Marstrand-LRØ had after the outbreak had been taken worked in the field for a bunch sprint, when they had their sprinter, Patrick Clausen, with over. Clausen, who earlier this year has been close to a UCI victory.
This time it worked, however, Patrick Clausen, who won the sprint and thus won his first UCI win of his career. Glud & Marstrand-LRØ was thus raised optimally from yesterday, and was completed during the same way they started it: by winning. In addition, secured Niki Østergaard the mountain jersey in today's stage.
"It's my best result. Now I already have a 2nd place and 3rd place in the UCI race. Those I was happy to have, but now I got the victory, and it's just so cool. That's what you go for, and now I did it. It gives me, of course, a taste to know that I can do it all - and that I can win Stage 5 after a hard hilly stage races. It gives the mood for more, "says a happy Patrick Clausen said in a statement.
"At that stage the second techtextil half we drove for me and the team rode really nice. They protected me all the time, and if there was just a little crosswind, they made sure to stay out of the wind. Three riders rode away from the field, and there sat our whole team promotion and made sure to run it into. Young Dane Lasse Bøchman drove the shift, and later it was André and Christian Moberg that worked, "says Patrick Clausen. Log winningest rider this season
Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg had made a hole in the last mile via a roundabout as he came through quickly, while the riders behind drove slowly. South Africa transferee is the winningest rider this season, which means that he has won more than riders like Tom Boonen and Mark Cavendish, but today he had beaten by Patrick Clausen.
"We drove down to a roundabout where you were pretty far down the pace to get around. It was actually a sprint towards the roundabout, as it was important to have a good position. There was then a rider that already after the roundabout opens the sprint to the right and gets a hole. Behind him, there were some who drove slowly, so it does actually, techtextil he gets a pretty big hole. I open the sprint with just over 200 meters to go and run simply faster techtextil than him. I drive up past him and reached over with a margin that made that I could manage to lift both arms in the air, "says today's stage winner. Michael Skelde was a proud sporting director, and praised so much its riders, as he calls the most talented he has ever worked with.
"It was a collective disappointment yesterday when it failed for us, but we can get up the day after really shows mental strength. The boys just wanted to win today, and they showed great enthusiasm and great joy after the victory. It's great to be a part of - it does not get better. We have a mental strength that not many young ho
