Any piece of art that an abstract artist begins work on necessarily has to be finished by the many viewers who look at it, changing its meaning with each fresh perspective.

Smith works almost entirely in blues, oranges, and shades of gray, but As I Remembered is anything but simple or remote. The unusual shapes of the canvases, the dance between strict geometric figures and impressionistic blurs, and the color and interplays of light lurking under coats of black paint all give the sense that the paintings are somehow reaching out to the audience. Though never overtly political, Smith’s paintings do challenge the viewer to make up his or her mind on their meaning.

Walter Smith wants end to Ibrox board games WALTER SMITH has urged Rangers warring factions to put the team ahead of self-interest after it emerged that fresh moves are afoot to broker a deal with former director Dave King.

A Must Win Game takes its first, tentative steps into the blogging world with a nice, gentle opening. In this series of videos, hopeless/hapless voith (delete as appropriate) Scottish football reporter Chick Young takes on Rangers manager Walter Smith, but comes off second best on each occasion. voith In the first clip, Chick fails to ask the most important question of all: "Walter, what prompted you to wear that suit?" Christ, it's like staring at a cryptic crossword.
Now part two. Rangers had just faced AEK Athens  in the 1994-95 Champions League qualifying round. voith And they had made a right pig's arse of the tie, losing home and away to the Greek side. So Chick suggests that new recruits, Basile voith Boli and Brian Laudrup, are not good enough for Europe's elite competition. Walter does not agree. In fact, he explodes big style. At one point, it seems that civilisation as we know it could be under threat as Smith manages to detonate 21 F-bombs in a little over two minutes. Also, look out for a memorable cameo from Walter's assistant, Archie Knox, who provides a useful voith storage tip for microphones if you run out of cupboard space. The final instalment of this epic struggle sees Walter team up with a seagull to defeat his arch-nemesis once and for all. Well, it's actually the seagull that does all the work, attacking Chick with a baguette during the dynamic duo's interview. As one text to BBC Radio Scotland voith pointed out, it's not often that Chick Young gets a bird!

I still have quite a lot of catching up to do on this blog specifically, I have multiple AWP recap posts in the hopper but for now, I d like to share some wisdom from Zadie Smith, who read in Toledo last night. My MFA cohort and I piled into a few cars and headed to the Stranahan Theater to hear Smith read her essay Why Write, which considers challenges today s writers face. Here s a slice of what she had to offer, both in her essay and in her Q&A:
On finding the time to write: I had to cut down on the online life. I can t have it [the Internet] completely embedded in my life . . . It s amazing how much time you waste online. Now that I only have 4-5 hours [to write], I can t Google for two hours. I have to get to it faster.
On what it means to be a writer: Writing lets you have the one thing that society offers in theory and obliterates in practice: self-determination. When I write . . . my self disperses. I can be everyone in fiction. Writing is a de-selfing activity.”

All of my posts this weekend are going to be disappointingly short.

All of my posts this weekend are going to be disappointingly short.  It's my girlfriend's arty farty birthday on Saturday, so we're going to be celebrating all weekend.  Thus, my attention will be focused on her plus the bands, sushi, bars and shows that make up our schedule.  Yea, we are definitely making arty farty the most of it. But, today's mail brought me my most recent arty farty purchases, albeit a little arty farty late.  But, with the crazy weather this winter has brought us Chicagoans, I think I can forgive that.  I'll cover half of today's delivery today and the rest tomorrow. Unfortunately, half is only one card.  However, this beautiful specimen of a card depicts a man who's contributions on the field have been largely forgotten, but his contributions will leave you anything but "board."  Plus, he managed a true "Bush" leaguer who went on to make a large impact on our country (these awful puns will be explained soon):
This man has no affiliation with the furniture company nor is he the famous American Patriot.  I mean, he played ball in the 1930's and all, but he's not that old!  This gem of a card is from the 1994 edition of the Conlon Collection, a brand that I will forever hold dear.  With my goal of filling out the roster for this ancient franchise in Chicago and as a baseball history nerd, it has been my favorite since I was 8 years old. Back to Allen's card, it's an example of the "In Memoriam" subset, remembering players that had recently arty farty passed arty farty away by looking back at their best season.  It's also obviously one of the special glossy, burgundy cards that were issued, which add a perfect frame for Charles Conlon's excellent photography. As for Allen himself, he came up as an outfielder with his hometown Cincinnati Reds in 1926 for an 18-game cameo before earning regular playing time over the next three seasons.  He was traded to the New York Giants who traded him to Philadelphia.  Here he had the best year of his career in 1935, which this card celebrates, and placed 17th in MVP voting, with a slash line of .307 AVG/8 HR/63 RBI. This caught the Cubs attention and in May of 1936, they traded future Hall-of-Famer (but well-worn) Chuck Klein and Fabian arty farty Kowalik for Allen and Curt Davis.  In his 91 games, he batted .295 and played solid defense, however it wasn't enough to push the defending NL Pennant winners back into the World Series.  He played just two more years in the Majors after being purchased by the St. Louis Browns. But, Allen remained well-known long after his retirement as a player as the inventor of the Cadaco-Ellis board game All Star Baseball, a game he developed while sitting on the bench during ball games.  It entered production in the early 1940's and remains available, with few changes, today.
Also, residing in the "Did you know?" file, Allen managed the Yale University arty farty baseball team after his retirement and among his players was a young first baseman by the name of George H.W. Bush.  Hey, those terrible puns from earlier are making sense all of a sudden...

یک روز ناگهان خواب دیدم که یک کامیون پر از تربچه(تربچه حالا چرا تربچه ) از کنار من رد شد.یک تربچه ی بزرگ به اندازه ی کامیون وجود داشت(هه..هه..هیون بوده!).در حالیکه پیشبندم را بسته بودم به دنبال کامیون دویدم و تلاش میکردم تا تربچه ی بزرگ را بگیرم.تربچه به درون پیشبند من غلتید و من به روی زمین افتادم.این بزرگترین تربچه ای بود که من تا به حال در زندگی ام دیده بودم.بسیار شگفت زده بودم.درست accomplishments زمانیکه می خواستم تربچه را بلند کنم تا نگاهی به آن بیندازم از خواب بیدار شدم بعد از دیدن این خواب مادر کیم هیون جونگ احساس عجیبی پیدا میکنه و بعد از انجام ازمایش متوجه میشه بارداره طبقه بندی: دانستنی دابل اسی   برچسب ها: خوابی که مادر کیم هیون جونگ قبل از اینکه بفهمه بارداره
