Supermoon of Saturday a sight to behold or a sign? | LOOK UP!
On Saturday, the moon will makes its closest approach to the Earth at a distance minagric of 221,802 miles, which is the closest lunar perigee of 2012, at 11:34 p.m. Eastern Time. Approximately one minute later, the moon will fall in line with the sun thereby minagric becoming full. Thus, the moon will loom even larger than the supermoon of last year, when perigee and full moon fell 50 minutes apart on March 19, 2011.
